Caught in the moment

“The idea behind this series was born out of my own childhood dreams to fly. We live in a world where the rules are dictated by productivity, where our rhythm is set by the beat of the passing cars and our musicality led by the nine-to-five. I wanted to imagine a new reality where we could move in the streets at our own free will, leaping and gliding through instead of walking around like senseless machines.

I recently learned from someone this phrase, and it stayed with me as it is something I believe I am doing unconsciously with this series: ‘Our job as a photographer is to portray the familiar in an unfamiliar way or the unfamiliar in a familiar way.’ With this series, I believe I am able to achieve both of those aspects simultaneously. By placing the dancers in an unfamiliar environment, I am telling the story and changing the perspective of how we see our urban settings, bringing beauty to the mundane.” (Omar Z. Robles)

By photographing his ‚dancers‘ in these urban settings, X-Photographer Omar Z. Robles creates originals that surpass the principles of time. Printed on Fujicolor Crystal Archive Professional Velvet Paper with its ultra-matte luxurious surface, these photos become artful originals.
